Santa?

A few weeks ago Santa came to our town on his fire tuck.  We actually had to chase him down because we missed his trip to our street.  I had Winterlyn crying in the back of the minivan "I wanna seeee sannnnnnntttttaaaaaaaaaa".
Fun times people, fun times.
I mean, she does not even believe in Santa.  It was all about the candy cane, which she didn't even eat because it was too "spicy".
Whatever!

I love the look on Julian's face!  "Listen lady, take the freaking picture so that I can eat my candy cane already!"

It is not a good video unless there is a "Johnny On The Go" in the background.

70 years old!

I cannot believe that my mother is 70 today!
Guess what she is doing?  She is working a double shift.  So typical!

Mom: "Whatcha doing Sunshine?"
Me: "Tomorrow is your birthday and I heard you are working a double shift??!!!"
Mom: "Yep!"
Me: "You are amazing Mom, when I grown up I want to be just like you.  Honestly".
Mom: "Well, I am stubborn and determined.  Just like you!"

Thank you Mom, so much for everything.  You are the reason why I am able to do all THIS.

5 Minutes to Capture 2010 Memories

Growth:
In 2010 I grew up a lot.  I did things that I never thought I would have done!  I went on adventures, met new people and said "yes" more often.  I got out of my shell and put myself out there and I even started dating again.  I removed toxic people from my life, which was so important.  That was like a life changing experience all within itself, truly!

Love:
In 2010 I discovered true friends and family by surrounding myself around positive supportive people.

My children:
In five minutes my head is spinning with the joys of being a mother.  The every day little things like holding hands while crossing the street, snuggling on the sofa, roasting marshmallow's and taking our drives to Wendy's for Frosties.  As I type I am reminded of cute little things they have said  like "Mommy, I always want to be nonfat, like skim milk" or "Mommy, I know our bus driver is a girl because she has pops".  I think of my oldest looking around the house for the remote control while it is hanging out of his pant pocket.

Hope:
I learned that my life is not set "as is" there are so many possibilities in store for me.  I have learned how to think outside the box and celebrate my life to the fullest.

I have dreams, too:
I rediscovered who I am.  For years I have felt a bit "trapped" in my single mom situation.  I don't mean that in a negative way all all.  However, I always tend to put myself last and my life on hold.  I have been in a stand still for years.  I forgot about my own dreams and focused on the dreams of my children.  I have a list of things that I want in my life, some things that need to change and some things that I need more of.  It is a rather big list but I am determined.
I know that it is because of this blog and because of my readers that I discovered who I am.  I have posted some pretty honest things in the past that have helped me open my eyes and "get over it".  I cannot thank you all enough for the comments, the emails, the support and the friendships.

I am RICH:
We might live like sardines in a tiny house, I might not have an expensive car or fancy band name clothes, and I certainly do not have loads on money in my checking account.  However, I am VERY rich in love.

It was a wonderful year!  I am so looking forward to next year because I know more amazing things are coming my way.. God has his hand on me, for certain.

Running around like a chicken

Last night the kids and I ran around like chickens, which is what we normally do on Mondays.

Church

Library

Dr. Appointment

Pharmacy

Food shopping

Blah blah blah!!

At the pharmacy the kids fell in love with reindeer antlers and a red nose for the minivan. I tried sooo hard to get myself out of that situation but to no avail. Gosh, now I am driving around with this stuff on my car. They are very happy about it all.

I am thinking it is the least I can do since I still have Halloween lawn decorations outside; a big black and purple fuzzy spider who we now call the “Christmas Spider”. I sure hope it does not turn into the “Valentine Spider” or the “Saint Patrick Spider”. However, the chances are VERY high!

We got home about 9pm and I was the only one who was tired! What is with THAT? Gosh, I swear my children never get tired! Trying to get them showered and into bed was such the battle! I had to promise a “camp out” in the living room with their sleeping bags, pillow pets and flashlights.

I fell asleep to the sound of them talking about Christmas while making light patterns on the ceiling.

Julian: “I hope I get all of the Toy Story characters!”

Winterlyn: “I want Toy Story characters too!”

Julian: “We can share Winterlyn”

Winterlyn: “Ok, I want press on nails!”

Jacob: “Shut up!”

Julian: “You shut up!”

Winterlyn: “Jacob, leave us alone!”

Jacob: “SHUT UP!!”

Winterlyn “MMMOOOOMMMMMMYYYYY!!!!! Jacob won’t leave us alone!”

Julian: “Mommy Jacob is annoying me!”

Jacob: “They won’t shut up!”

Julian: “You shut up!”

Winterlyn “JJJJAAAACCCCOOOOBBBBB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Jacob and Julian: “Shut up Winterlyn!!!!”

Winterlyn: “I don’t HAVE any shutters, duh!”

New “stuffs”

This past weekend I took the kids for new “stuffs”.

Each one got a haircut, and boy do they look adorable! Julian now has “spikes” in his hair, which of course he is getting a very serious kick out of!!

We also went to the shoe store and got new sneakers and boots. We are officially ready for snow.. bring it on Mother Nature!

Julian got seven new pairs of pants! Little man is getting very tall but still so skinny. His old pants were “high waters”. His new pants are a bit too big but perfect in length, soooooo

Julian now has a new Toy Story belt!

Oh, and he got new socks and underwear.

Winterlyn now has four new hooded sweat suites which are adorable! They are a fuzzy fleece to keep her cozy. And, they are all loaded with sparkles. So cute!

Jacob got four new shirts and a winter jacket since the zipper on his other one is broken. It is impossible to shop with him! He is in that stage where he wants to look “cool” so it takes forever for him to pick out stuff. Whatever he wears has to be “perfect”, arg!

Yeah, it was a BUSY weekend!

Winter concert

I just raced like a crazy woman driver to see Winterlyn play the drums and sing at her Winter Concert.

She looked so grown up! Have you ever had a moment like that? Where you look at your child and realize “wow, look how grown up she/he looks”?

I swear she walked past me and I thought “look at how pretty that little girl looks” and suddenly I realized that it was MY little girl.

I wish I had pictures but as usual I ended up standing in the back because of work. My cell phone camera just wouldn’t zoom in close enough without making her look like a messy blurry.

I have flowers for Winterlyn and also a cake. Before we head out to Boy Scouts my little family and I are taking her out to dinner to celebrate. She did such a great job!

Winterlyn

My little girl was not feeling well at all this weekend, yet there was no actual “symptoms” or fever. She just felt under the weather. On Friday we were supposed to meet friends at the movies to see Tangled but when I got home from work she told me she was too tired. This is so odd for her! She went to bed at 6pm and didn’t wake up until Saturday morning.

Of course with it being my Birthday Saturday and Sunday were beyond busy for us. She seemed so “blah” the entire weekend. She hardly had an appetite and she complained about her head hurting. The previous weekend Puzzle Boy had a stomach bug, maybe she had the same thing but not as extreme.

On Monday she did well in school but when I picked her up (she had a half day) she said she was tired. She ate lunch and quickly went to bed. In the evening we had Pioneer Girls at church and she seemed to be back to normal.

Hmm.. just one of those things I guess. Poor baby.

Julian

Guess who has straight A’s on his report card?

Yep, my little man.
I cannot even begin to express how proud of him I am. He puts his entire heart and soul into anything that he does, really it is impressive.

This past weekend he and I worked on his “Box Of Wonder”. He loves to color cartoon characters (especially Toy Story) and cut them out. They almost look like paper dolls.

He and his sister use them to pretend play; they are called “Paper People”. His teacher is wonderful because she will laminate them for us so that they do not get ruined. She will also go online and print out coloring pages for him to color at home or during free time at school.

He has over 300 Paper People! So, we have a Box of Wonder which is a big box that we decorated with Toy Story, Ben 10 and Spiderman pictures. We also loaded it with glitter, of course!

What’s a craft project without some sparkle?

The Drive-Thru Disaster!

The other night the side kids and I were running around like chickens, as usual! It was one of those nights where I had to have a kid at an activity by 6pm and I don’t get home until 5:30pm!

I was clever and packed PB&J sandwiches the night before which the kids ate before I got home but by the time the activity ended the kids were STARVING!

So, to Wendy’s we went! I was thinking it would be quick and easy..

It was a very simple order:

 Three small hamburgers
Two small French fries
One baked potato
And four small Frosties.

We drove all the way home and guess what? No baked potato, only three Frosties and one order of French Fries!

Gasp!

I called the restaurant and said: “Hello, I was just there and….”

The man interrupted me to say: “I am sorry, I have the rest of your order right here. It was my oversight!”

Me, being nice (as usual) says: “Ok, no problem at all. We will be back to pick it up!”.

All sugar and freaking spice and everything way too nice.

We pack everything up and drive back to the restaurant. Once inside I had to explain the situation a million times to blank faces before someone realized what I was talking about.

Finally the Manager says “Ah, we were just messing with you!” and hands me a bag while laughing.

Like, whatever!

I drive all the way home to discover:

The potato didn’t have a lid; it was mashed all over the bag.
Still, no second fries
And one hamburger didn’t have a wrapper; it was just sitting at the bottom of the bag.

My mind was on the fact that it was late on a school night and I still had to feed the kids, go over homework, lay out clothes, pack snacks/lunches and give baths. Really, I should have just checked the bag to begin with but noooooooooooooooo……

Cozy Christmas Shoppe

Recently the kids and I went to a cozy little Christmas shop here in town. Every year the store opens up just for the Holiday season. It is loaded with decorated trees, wreaths, lights and ornaments.

And, Santa! : )

I had a wonderful and rare opportunity to have “alone time” with my Jacob and Winterlyn, thanks to Bob and Beth. (Thank you!!)

I know that the pictures are not that great since I had to use my cell phone. I am very sad to report that my camera is not working. I know! It is only two years old and a Mother’s Day gift from the kids (thanks to a very thoughtful friend who took the kids shopping and purchased it for them to give to me). So, that is on the list of “things that need to be fixed when I can afford it”.

Gosh, that list is growing! Make it stop!!!

December 3, 2010

Thank you so much!

Dear reader, you are brilliant! Thank you so much for all of your emails regarding my mouse situation. All of the guidance and “pep talks” were just awesome.

Kisses

Kisses

And more Kisses!

Guess what? Last night I placed two more traps in the attic and this morning they were not touched.

Could this be the end of my situation? I certainly do hope so! I did put poison in the crawl space and also the attic, so maybe that worked?

Oh, not to mention the peppermint oil and moth balls. Gosh does my house STINK.

And, I prayed a lot, which always works.

But on a happier note, I am turning 40 next Sunday! I am beyond thrilled about it!

The 40’s!!

Wow!

I know you might think I am nuts to be excited about getting older but my 40’s will be marvelous! My head is spinning at all of the possibilities.

The kids and I are going to celebrate together, of course. I am sooo excited!

December 2, 2010

We are not having a great week!

On Monday night while putting curlers in Winterlyn's hair I heard a noise in the ceiling. We banged a broom and whatever it was actually hissed at us, it sounded like a buzzing sound.

I immediately called the Exterminator and made an appointment for this weekend because that is when I can afford to pay him.

I searched the internet for what it could be. I was thinking the worst, like a Raccoon (again!) or a Rat (oh there are Roof Rats and Norway Rats.. gosh just the thought!). However, it seems based on the noise it is either a Deer Mouse or a Field Mouse.

So, quickly the kids and I ran to Home Depot and got a few mouse traps. We got the kind were we don’t have to see the mouse. The mouse goes into the white enclosed trap and a spring lever closes the door, killing the mouse.

I placed one in the kitchen and one in the attic. That night the one in the kitchen was not touched (Thank God!). However, the one in the attic was.

We took it down and all four of us were standing around it. The lever was moved from “set” to “caught mouse”, but yet there seemed to be no mouse.

I was looking at how something chewed the trap and I opened it and saw little mouse droppings. I was immediately worried because I knew it is a mouse, which to me is a big problem!

I started to say…

“Well, it is a mouse but we didn’t catch it……..”

And that is when I saw it. A mouse, a rather big one stuck in the corner of the trap.

Smashed, actually.

Immediately I throw it into the kitchen trash can and put my face in my hands and started to cry.

I am a baby.

I know.

Jacob was rubbing my back as he said “Mommy it's OK, everything is going to be OK”.

My head was spinning with questions and worries like:

How many are up there?

How much is this going to cost?

Are they in the house or just the attic?

How are they getting in?

Can I do this?

Can I handle this?

Who can I call to help me?

What about Christmas?

After a bit I looked at Jacob and I could tell his head was spinning too.

Jacab suggested that we look at it closely and figure out what it is, exactly. However, both he and I were too scared to do it.

Julian is very much the brave one in the family. He said he would look at it and tell me what it looks like. Bad move on my part, I Know.

He picked up the trap, pulled the little lever down and looked at the mouse.

Slowly he began to get tears in his eyes as he said “Mommy, he is dead and that is so sad”.

He dropped it in the trash can and ran to me. Now the two of us are crying.

Winterlyn was next to look at it. She picked it up, moved the lever and said “Yep, it’s dead alright. Its face looks like this…….”.

She scrunched up her face, crossed her eyes and stuck out her tongue. We were all laughing.

The tension was gone.

She was describing it to us as Jacob walked closer to her. He is the biggest chicken in the family! Slowly he was getting more comfy..

Closer

Closer….

Eventually he was right next to Winterlyn and paying to what she was saying while trying to get a closer look into the trap.

Suddenly it moved! Its tail flipped out of the trap..

Winterlyn screamed, I screamed, Julian ran and Jacob stood in shock with his eyes focused on the trap.

At this point the trap was on the kitchen floor because Winterlyn had dropped it. We were all coming up with scams on how to get it back into the trash can without actually touching it. We were all positive that the mouse was not dead even though technically that was impossible.

I finally picked the trap up (with a fireplace poker thingy) and put it in the garbage again. I tied up the bag and RAN it to the outside garbage can.

My poor kids!

We raced to Home Depot for the second time and got more traps and some posion.

We put the poison in the crawl space and also in the attic. We also put up three traps in the attic and one trap again in the kitchen.

This morning we caught two more mice. Both seemed smaller than the first one and both came from the attic. There was nothing in the trap in the kitchen.

Again, thank God!

I am positive that the mice are only in the attic. I have never seen anything unusual in the house, and no droppings. I am assuming that they are getting in the attic by way of the crawl space or perhaps the AC unit.

A few weeks ago I noticed a stray cat hanging out and stalking by the AC unit. He did this for a few nights in a row.

Unfortunately I am on my own with this. I cannot afford an exterminator until later this week. I also have no one that I can ask to help. In the meantime I will keep placing traps nightly and just “deal”.

Two more nights.

It is my hope that an Exterminator will find the area in which the little boogers are getting in and seal it. They are good climbers so there might be an open vent on the roof or a hole. It also could be the crawl space or the AC unit connects to the house.

I just don’t know but I feel like I want to just move. Just the thought of it all is killing me. The fact that they can easily chew on electrical wiring and start a fire is keeping me up at night. The concept of them moving around just above the heads of my children angers me! And, I keep thinking about the diseases they carry.

Mostly I think about how the only person who is willing to help me is my 70 year old mom or an Exterminator that I clearly cannot afford.

And, its Christmas time.

Remember that mountain? I am still climbing…
